OFF CAMERA
I spend a lot of time helping pictures behave — retouching, organizing, digitizing, making sure they have a job. But maybe that’s asking too much.
If they can make it through the dress rehearsal without mumbling their cues or wandering offstage, these pictures might actually amount to something.
So many fences. There’s probably a way through. Someone once loved this song. I want to be a gardener, but I’m hopeless — here’s some pictures of flowers. The Met is a dollhouse. We cut through the door and found…another door. Someone left a bag of something important on the Queen Victoria Memorial. My kids are probably cuter than yours.
The scene ended. No climax. No decisive moment. Just some blocking, too many props, and forgotten lines. (Sekula’s nodding. Or rolling his eyes.)
The ordinary doesn’t need elevating. It’s already performing. Let’s hang on long enough to let it stutter through whatever it’s trying to say. We have time.
