Film to Form: Process and Research
Inspired by the 19th century time-motion studies of Eadweard Muybridge and Étienne-Jules Marey, “Film to Form” is a generative form-finding tool I developed that transcodes archival ornithological films into generative volumetric forms. Conflating the contradictory nature of images and concrete objects, this project works to excavate the temporal and spacial traces of objects in motion.

The resulting software has been used to develop a series of projects, each building on the core idea of extruding sculpture from moving images. Projects developed using this software can be found on this site here.
